Felicien Rops

Due to my need for even more art history than I already have, I checked out a book about Felicien Rops yesterday from the library. I spent an hour in their deciding between the book I got and a book about Avigdor Arikha. I got the Rops book because it was smaller, and I also liked the work. His works are different from most of the works I have learned about in class. Rops is a Belgian symbolist artist and his work has TONS of symbolism especially about death…very avant-garde. Hope you enjoy.

It’s about time for another post!

This one is about one of my favorites as well. Paul Cezanne is a painter that most people don’t know about unless they are in the art world. His work grew out of impressionism and helped to head-off cubism. His works span so many techniques and skills that it’s amazing how many people have never heard the name! I just wanted to share his works with you guys!!

Schiele and Klimt

I’m getting an Egon Schiele book for Christmas. He’s an interesting artist but not exactly politically correct at times. I like his style which reminds me of Giacometti and Klimt put together, although his choice of subject is sometimes disgusting. He actually recreates some of Klimt’s work the book I’m getting which is interesting, but I do like Klimt’s work better. I actually looked for a Klimt book and a Degas book, but I couldn’t find one. I just decided to start my build up of art books with Schiele, which isn’t a bad compromise.

I tried to find an example online of the Klimt interpretation by Schiele, but when I get the book I’ll know the titles and everything and show an example. It’s pretty interesting. I’m going to research these artists so I can blog more about them later.

Klimpt is the painting bellow and Schiele is the one at the top. I like the way they both use color, but Schiele does rely heavily on outlines [which I've been told by my professors that I do too haha] and I do like Klimt’s use of value to show the edges as opposed to strong contour lines. I also like how fantastical Klimt’s work is. If you go to Olga’s Gallery or any gallery of Klimt’s work you can see how he evolved as an artist from just normal portraits and landscapes to a really interesting painter. James Tucker

Everyone needs to go check out the James Tucker exhibit at the Weatherspoon Art Museum before they leave for break. It is really awesome and I really like his style. I especially like the paintings he has done made from colored silhouettes. Very interesting stuff so go check it out!!!!

Time

For Corey’s design class he has to consider the path that time takes. We had a pretty “deep” discussion about it. We talked about how time is made of memories, and without memories time does not matter. (no history=no time). We also talked about choices, like each choice presents a break in time (the path not taken ends). We talked about stuff like a point in time and a chunk of time just to decide how to visualize time’s path. Just wondering if there are any opinions on the matter out there.
